In preparation to the 26th World Gas Conference, which will take place in Paris in June 2015, this fall the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands will host a bilateral seminar in order to “Connect the French and Dutch Gas Industry”. Its objective is to support high-level matchmaking between French and Dutch key government representatives, industry executives, scientists and young professionals from the gas industry.
Over the past fifty years, the Netherlands has established itself as a pivotal player on the European gas market. It is not only a major natural gas producer and source of advanced gas technology, but also Europe’s leading gas broker. Often the Netherlands is described as the “gas hub” of north-western Europe. Hence, the World Gas Conference is an important event for Dutch businesses to communicate this message to other parties and to improve their position on the European and World gas market.
In 2015, the World Gas Conference will return to Europe (Paris), after taking place in Malaysia and Argentina in 2012 and 2009. France is a particularly suitable venue for the World Gas Conference, as it has acquired a strategic position on the European gas market. France, does not only possess the largest liquefied natural gas capacities in Europe but is also Europe’s leader in natural gas infrastructure, as it operates and markets the largest transmission and distribution network in Europe.
World Gas Conference 2015, Paris, 1-5 June 2015
From 1-5 June 2015, Paris will welcome the world’s energy community, to the 26th World Gas Conference (WGC). The WGC is organized by the International Gas Union and takes place in a different country every three years. During the triennium between two conferences, more than 1,000 industry professionals spend their time studying and conducting research. In more than 14 working groups, topics covering the entire gas value chain are studied. The central topic of next year’s conference is “Growing together towards a friendly planet”. It will particularly focus on highlighting the role of gas in future world growth, given the increased demand for cleaner energies. Besides the conference there is also a trade fair, where the Holland pavilion will accommodate the following nine Dutch companies on 270 m2: A.Hak, EBN, Energy Delta Institute, GasTerra, Gasunie, NMi EuroLoop, Seal for Life, TNO, and VSL. The Holland pavilion will promote the Netherlands as Natural Gas Country (Nederland aardgasland!) under the slogan “Unity in Diversity”.
The program of the WGC, as well as the Dutch contributions to the conference e.g. on “geopolitics and energy security” and “corporate behavior in the political arena,” can be found online.
Bilateral seminar “Connecting the French and Dutch Gas Industry”, Paris, 6 November 2014
As the 26th World Gas Conference is approaching, the bilateral seminar that will be hosted by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands this fall, has the objective to facilitate dialogue between French and Dutch players in a much smaller setting.
During the plenary morning session, both France and the Netherlands have the opportunity to present the special characteristics of their domestic gas markets. In this context, guest speakers from Gasunie, Shell, the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, GDFSuez, Airliquide, GE Power Conversion, as well as the French Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy will pay attention to topics such as: energy infrastructure, industrial customers and technological innovation, as well as to energy policy.
During the afternoon sessions, participants will have the opportunity to discuss in small and interactive groups topics that are of importance to both the Netherlands and France. These topics are: “Power-to-Gas as a strategic tool for more sustainable results”, “LNG for shaping the energy future”, “Energy efficiency in industrial processes – the factory of the future”, and “Area based approaches to industrial efficiency”.
The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and its French and Dutch partners are looking forward to these inspiring events.
